Join us for two days exploring holistic orchard stewardship. Legendary biodynamic farmers Luke Frey of Frey Vineyards and Hugh Williams & Hanna Bail of Threshold Farm in Philmont, NY will guide us as we explore hands-on the stages of fruit tree growth, development, and care, and the years-long process of re-visioning and pruning overgrown trees back to a vital, productive state. Here at Cider Creek we have apple, pear, plum, cherry, hawthorn, and more in various stages of growth and restoration, so we will be interacting with pruning variables that change over the years for many types of fruit trees. Luke and Hugh are lifelong biodynamic practitioners, deeply versed in all aspects of holistic farming. There will be a wealth of information for all levels of interest and experience!

Cider Creek Collective was founded in 2021 when Jess Thompson and Nick Schwartz moved their pottery and artist-in-residence program from Comptche to the 160+ year old homestead on Cider Creek in coastal Albion. The land is home to more than 40 fruit trees, some potentially more than 100 years old. Nick and Jess are known for their work with local clay materials and natural firing methods. With the stewardship of the new land, they are turning their making and teaching towards the confluence of art and agriculture, making cider mugs and jugs, fermentation crocks, family-style platters, and other farmhouse ware that will work in tandem with the orchards, food crops, and community culture that thrive on the land.
